BorgWarner Generation 4 Active On Demand Coupling (AOC) is a type of mechanical device that is used to connect and disconnect the front and rear driveshafts of a vehicle with four-wheel drive (4WD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) capabilities. The AOC system allows the vehicle to switch between 2WD and 4WD or AWD modes depending on the driving conditions and the needs of the driver.
The AOC system consists of a coupling device located between the front and rear driveshafts, a control module, and a set of sensors that monitor the driving conditions and the demands on the drivetrain. When the AOC system is engaged, the coupling device connects the front and rear driveshafts, allowing power to be transmitted to all four wheels. When the AOC system is disengaged, the coupling device disconnects the front and rear driveshafts, allowing the vehicle to operate in 2WD mode.
The AOC system can be activated manually by the driver or automatically by the control module based on the driving conditions and the demands on the drivetrain. The AOC system can improve the traction, stability, and handling of the vehicle, particularly in adverse weather conditions or off-road environments.
